Production Diary #5

Now that I have footage with two of the girls featured in my music video; Alana and Lizzie, I have been editing all of this footage together in Premiere – leaving some space as I go along, for the third part of my video. Below is the screen that I’m on when editing and putting together my video in Premiere.

As you can see from above, I’ve been working a lot on the editing process of my footage in order for it to run smoothly and for the contrasting footage to work together well without it looking too out of place. From the picture above, the blue bars below the pictures of Alana show how much footage I have at the moment. There are still a lot of gaps in between footage, especially towards the beginning of the song, however within the next couple of weeks I should have footage fitting in these gaps.

I’ve also been starting work on my magazine advert and I now have pictures of Lizzie, however I do need to schedule another shoot with Alana to get some pictures of her that I can use throughout my advert. I’ve got a basic outline of what I want my magazine advert to include and the style I want it to have, I’ve already planned the writing, fonts and colours so all that’s left to add on to it is the actual pictures of all of the girls.

Production Diary #4

Having all my footage from my shoot with Alana, next to film was my second model; Lizzie Russel. My shoot with Lizzie once again took place in the black box theatre at Haydon and before we began filming, Lizzie rehearsed her parts whilst I set up the lights needed and the camera. Before filming began we took a few test photos which you can see below:

This was to see how the lighting was working for her as well as to ensure that the rest of the room was completely blacked out by the lights so that she was the only thing in view – the main and only focus. Once I had made sure that lighting was suitable and camera was angled in a fitting way, we began filming. All together we went through the song about five times with some additional footage of Lizzie in front of the camera without mouthing along to the song. I also did this with Alana as I think that it will be very useful for me to have some extra footage of all of the girls and in parts of the song were there are no lyrics, I will be able to use some of this footage.

Before my shoot with Lizzie, I have been working on more of the blog posts that need to be completed, the moodboard is one that I am currently working on and struggling with quite a bit. However, this week I have completed the brand guidelines which allowed me to gain a better and wider perspective on my magazine advert and my digipak as I’ve found trying to come up with a good and professional layout very difficult. On top of this, I’ve also gone back on several of my posts with lower marks and tried to improve them by adding more information and making sure they’re all in the right place.

Production Diary #3: Behind the Scenes

This is my third production diary throughout the process of constructing my music video and the link below shows me talking to camera directly after my second shoot had finished. Despite this being my second shoot in the black¬†box theatre, this is my first shoot that I’m planning to use to go with my new song ‘Stone Cold’.

Production Diary #2

Since creating all of my blog posts and doing my very first shoot with my model; Tom, I have since decided to change my song and consequently my entire idea. My reasoning behind this is because I didn’t have full confidence in being able to create a successful and decent music video that went well with the song.

My new song that I’ve chosen is ‘Stone Cold by Demi Lovato’ from her 2015 album ‘Confident’. Even though this is a relatively new decision I already feel better about having to create and produce my own original idea that goes with this song. I’m really happen that I decided to change the song I was doing as now I think that I can create a better music video as I now have a much stronger and more detailed idea of what I need to do in order for it to be successful. The only drawback of changing my song is that as a consequence, I now have to change everything i had originally planned to do, so for the most part I do have to start from scratch, I would have been better off realising what song I needed to do sooner so that I gave myself more time to complete everything that’s needed to be done.

Production Diary #1

Setting up our blogs was the very first thing that we had to do as we needed somewhere to post all of our future blog posts. However even before we did this we needed to be thinking about what kind of advanced portfolio we wanted to do; whether that be a music video, short film, documentary, newspaper, magazine etc. Whilst at first I was unsure about doing a music video as the idea of pure performance didn’t appeal to me, by researching into the different types of music videos (i.e. performance, narrative and conceptual) I think either of the other two options definitely appeals to me a lot more.

Looking even more into the different types of music videos and real life and successful examples of them was really helpful and I found it very interesting. Additionally it was good to look at how they run and how they look as editing and piecing together clips isn’t something that I am confident on as I have very little experience with it. In class we looked at a lot of Radiohead and Coldplay music videos which all had quite a quirky and therefore conceptual feel to them which is definitely something which I am aiming for when making my own music video. A conceptual music video is the option which appeals to me the most as I think it’s the most interesting and intriguing. The other two options; Performance and Narrative, have to go somewhere or tell some kind of story but a Conceptual music video seems to be more spontaneous and the type of things shown seem more appealing to me.

Next week I hope to gain more ideas about what I actually want to do in order to get a stronger image of what is possible for me to achieve. I’m also hoping to look at more music videos to get a good idea of what is realistic and achievable for me to do.
